Dress for the outdoors with sturdy footwear, although we have shelters in the woodland this is Yorkshire and the weather can be rather chilly at times
Why not camp over with us while on your course? How to Book
You can pitch up your tent and camp next to the woodsman's shelter where you will be working, in the area of woodland where the courses are run. There is a firepit and seating covered by canvas, so even if the weather is a little bit inclement in the evening you can still stay warm and dry and enjoy the warmth of the fire. There are toilet and basic wash facilities adjacent to the camping area, please note, we have no shower or kitchen facilities at present.
If camping is not your thing, there are various types of accommodation in the surrounding area including a fantastic self catering Salt House , Thornton Lodge Farm Bed & Breakfast in Easingwold and Fourways Guest House in Thirsk.
We will provide tea and coffee all day during the course, usually in the kelly kettle powered from the wood shavings we have generated. We will also provide a simple but hearty lunch to keep you going during the day, usually soup and fresh baked bread.
If you fancy a pint and a bite to eat at the end of the day, The Moor & Pheasant (just 500m down the road) serves an excellent carvery and ales.
York Wood Crafts camp is about halfway between the beautiful market towns of Thirsk and Easingwold, full of pubs and restaurants. York is only 15 miles to the south, and the white horse at Kilburn is only 5 miles away.
We try to make the courses accessible for everyone, however given the very nature of rural crafts our course may not always be suitable for those in wheelchairs or with mobility challenges. Our courses are open to the Yorkshire elements, suitable clothing and footwear is a must. If you have at questions please contact us before booking and we will try our best to accommodate.
Open to everyone our courses have no upper age limit, anyone attending below the age of 18 years, must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Other halves/Family Members/Carers - are welcome to watch, help and support but must not interrupt the progress of the course or distract other course participants. Please notify us well in advance of accompanying guests and if they wish to partake in the refreshments, for which there will be a small charge.
N.B At York Wood Crafts HQ we have a variety of animals and Jim's two Dogs Bilbo and Bryn will often attend the courses.
